Stuart White is a Norfolk local and started bird watching over thirty years ago, as soon as he was first
old enough to hold a pair of binoculars. As well as birding regularly all over East Anglia, he has also
spent several years travelling and has birded in every continent in the world, turning his hobby into a
serious passion.
Stuart loves showing other people birds and is keen to transfer his skills on identification, he has a
wealth of experience and expertise which make him ideal for leading bird watching tours. Combining this
with his affable and easy going manner ensures an interesting and enjoyable day out for everyone.
In early 2008 Stuart took over from Paul Laurie the original owner of the company. Stuart hopes to run the
company in a similar fashion and still has some background help from him. Paul is now concentrating on
‘Natural surroundings’ his nature reserve in the glaven valley a few miles inland from Cley
and his ’Bird Ventures’ wildlife shop in Holt.
The Bird I.D Company celebrated it's tenth year of organizing bird watching tours during 2009. Below are
some of the species we saw on tour last year;
East Anglia specialities - Golden Oriole, Montagu's Harrier, Bittern, Common Cranes,
Stone Curlew, Honey Buzzard, Bearded Tit and Taiga Bean Geese.
Scarce breeding & passage birds - Leach's Petrel, Spoonbill, Smew, Goshawk, Rough
Legged Buzzard, Quail, Golden Pheasant, Dotterel, Jack Snipe, Red Necked & Grey Phalaropes, Spotted
Crake, Long Eared Owl, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Hoopoe, Wryneck, Waxwing, Dartford Warbler, Firecrest,
Red Breasted Flycatcher, Willow Tit, Great Grey Shrike, Hawfinch, Crossbills and Snow, Lapland &
Ortolan Buntings.
Rarities - Cory's Shearwater, Glossy Ibis, Ring-necked & Ferruginous Ducks, Red-footed
Falcon, Collared & Black Winged Pratincoles, Kentish Plover, American & Pacific Golden Plovers,
White-rumped, Baird's & Buff-breasted Sandpipers, Caspian & White-winged Terns, Long Tailed Skua,
Great Spotted Cuckoo, Short-toed Lark, Red Rumped Swallow, Citrine Wagtail, Pied Wheatear, Barred,
Yellow Browed & Pallas's Warblers, Penduline Tit and Woodchat Shrike.
