Autumn Birdwatching Tours

With the Autumn of 2007 being so eventful in Norfolk we have a full programme of tours to chose from this year. Last autumn started off with the Greenish Warbler invasion in late August, over the space of 5 days a record 30 birds had been seen. To put this in context, only 70 had ever been recorded in Norfolk up to the end of 2006! Along with these came double figure counts of Barred Warbler, red backed shrike and Wryneck through into September. Early September proved a great time for seawatching with record breaking numbers of Great Searwaters seen and good numbers of Sabines Gulls and Long Tailed Skuas. On the wader front a Long Billed Dowitcher and Buff Breasted Sandpiper were welcome finds, the dowitcher staying 5 days. Late September and early October proved excellent for extreme rarities with a Red Flanked Blue-tail, Blyth's Reed Warbler, Subalpine Warbler & Humes Leaf Warbler. Added to this the almost expected invasion of Yellow Browed Warblers with up to 12 being seen at Holkham pines on any one day through the autumn and many others at sites all around the coast. Also an invasion of Great Grey Shrikes with up to 30 birds involved plus one Lesser Grey Shrike and 15 Richard's Pipits, it was turning out to be a classic autumn in Norfolk. In November it was the turn of Little Auks and Pomarine Skuas with large counts of both from many sites and to round things off a long staying Desert Wheatear and 10 Rough Legged Buzzards.
